Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, who joined Major League Soccer club Inter Miami in 2023 and instantly created a buzz, has now guided the club to its first-ever MLS Cup triumph.
In a thrilling encounter, Inter Miami defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 at their home ground, DRV PNK Stadium, in a match that took place late Saturday night Bangladesh time. Since its inception in 2020 under David Beckham’s ownership, Inter Miami had never lifted the MLS Cup—until now.
This victory also marked Messi’s 48th career trophy across club and international football, and he was named the MLS Cup’s Most Valuable Player for his outstanding performance.
The match began with Inter Miami taking an early lead. In the 8th minute, Vancouver’s Edier Ocampo inadvertently turned the ball into his own net while trying to stop a shot from Tadeo Aleñá.
Vancouver bounced back in the second half. In the 60th minute, Ali Ahmed scored from long range, leveling the score after beating the Miami goalkeeper with a precise strike.

When the game was finely poised, Messi showcased his brilliance. In the 71st minute, he won the ball in the opponent’s half and delivered a perfect assist to Rodrigo De Paul, who converted it to put Inter Miami ahead.
As Vancouver pressed for an equalizer in the dying moments, Messi struck again. In the 96th minute of added time, his exquisite pass set up Aleñá for the third goal, sealing a 3-1 victory and sparking jubilant celebrations across the stadium.
The day was also emotional as former Barcelona stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba played their final matches, receiving a farewell amidst the championship celebrations.
The clash between Inter Miami vs Vancouver will be remembered as the night Messi not only led his club to glory but also added another remarkable chapter to his legendary career.
